In the Shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge and yet more pages from my SMASH book

Ok this one is a little different from my usual style and I really love the way it has turned out.
I decided to print this cool photo that I took of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco as large as my printer would allow (A4 size) and use it as background paper. I used a matte photo paper so that it wouls give the impression of patterned paper and so that my glossy family photo would stand out from it.
I kept my embellishments clustered around my focal photo so as not to cover up too much of my background photo.  Then I positioned a second title cluster to balance out my photo. I added spme strips of patterned paper and map paper behind the background photo so that my finished page would be 12 x 12" in size.
The paper that I used for this LO is actually from a teenage boy themed collection by Kaisercraft. Most themed papers are very versatile can can be used for other subjects apart from what they are intended. My title was inspired by the current challenge word over at Bird is the Word 'shadow'.
So dig out those beautiful scenic shots that you have in your collection and give this tecnique a try. It really is heaps of fun and a great excuse to print out an enlargement of that favourite photo that you have hidden away!

Now for some more pages from my SMASH book. I am p to our stay in Stoke-on-Trent to spend some time with my mum (she has Altzheimers so doesn't recognise any of us any more) and to take my dads ashes home. This was a really difficult time for us and some of these pages were very hard to scrap but hey, I did it and I am so happy that I have the memories recorded for my children in years to come. I created some hidden flaps on my pages to add more journaling and my children's thoughts.

What a beautiful memory you have created with your smash journal Sarah. So sad you had to say goodbye to your Mum for the last time :( xxx

You've got me almost blubbing...it is SO sad-almost as if you've gone to her funeral, in a way...I still remember the shock of seeing my grandma like your mum....but good on you for scrapping it all:):):) the smash book looks fantastic ...I'm taking note of how you've done it so I don't reinvent the wheel!!!!! And LOVE your shadow LO ...different for you, but works really well. Great snap!!!!!
