Almost Sweet 16! and 'Stuck's' 1st October sketch!

This month is a big month in our family - 4 of my 6 kids have birthdays in October, and so does my husband! A few days ago my eldest daughter turned 16! I took this photo a couple of days before her big day at our local beach.

She really loved this picture so I wanted to scrap it for her. The papers that I used are from the new Studio Calico 'Portfolio' range - if you haven't seen this range yet you really should check it out! It is absolutely awesome!!! I have used heaps of cool Purple Pumpkin embellies on this page. The crocheted doily photo corner and the spotty buttons are ofcourse PP. Check out this cluster:

That cute butterfly doily was the perfect complement to the large spotty yellow button on the right hand edge of my page. And the black/pink heart button really 'pops' from the page and draws the eye to Natalie's black hair. The scrapware kite adds a playful touch to complete the page.
For my title I opened up my new packet of yellow 'sugar coated thickers' from the American Craft 'Dear Lizzy' range. I use a lot of yellow in my layouts and these bright letters are a fun touch to complement the papers. The rest of the title uses Prima alpha and word stickers.

Now for the first October sketch from Stuck!?!. Here is the sketch:

and here is my take for the Stuck design team...

Now there is a story behind the title - Benji never says 'because' he always says 'becai' (rhymes with 'eye'). We think that this is a combination of the words 'because' and 'I' but then he adds on the 'I' to his sentence anyway, so he will say 'Becai I want to' instead of 'Because I want to'. This is so cute and such a part of him right now that I wanted to make a page for his album incase we ever forget it :) In the photo he is handing me a daisy that he picked for me. This is a new thing for him - usually my daughter hands me flowers and Benji hands me a rock or stone that he has picked up lol. Recently though he has started to copy Sophie and pick daisys and dandelions for me - so precious!
I used a lot of stamping and inking to make my own background for this page. I really went to town to create the grungy look! I used hardly any paper - just a few strips of Kaisercraft.

Hope you are having a great weekend wherever you are. Here in Auckland we woke to a beautiful sunny day, with cloudless skies - and now, two hours later it is pouring with rain SIGH! :)))

My Goodness October would NOT be the month to go on a diet, sounds like a lot of birthday cake consumption happens for your family!!hehe!! Your layouts are really lovely, I love all the misting and the back ground on the second one, and the story behind the layout is so cute.. It is good to record all the things the kids say, because you do forget them as time passes... and thanks for coming by my blog too!!
