Snapshots and memories

Scrapfriends sketches are hands down the best that I have ever come across. This is the current sketch challenge and my take on it!
I wanted to make a page showing my favourite photos from a beach walk that we took one evening in Omapere. I love to play around with mixed media and beach photos look especially good with heavily distressed backgrounds and lashings of gesso and texture paste! I saw a magazine article recently about using edge punches to distress around paper in an interesting way. I gave it a go here and I really love the result - definitely something that I will be doing again.
My background paper is from Bo Bunny - the newsprint was a little overwhelming for my photos so I played it down by painting over it with white gesso then adding texture paste over a honeycomb mask. I inked the edges with distress ink and generously splattered ink blots over the page.
I used one of my current favourite tecniques to mat the main photo - I pile up odds and ends of patterned papers, tags, die-cuts etc then staple them together to hold them in place. I attach this miscellaneous pile to my background paper and add the photo last (works every time and used up all those offcuts that are too small to be really useful but too cute to throw out!).
My leather heart, fabric button, wooden button and twine are all from the amazing Purple Pumpkin., A few strips of Washi tape and soome word tags finished off the page.
Do check this one out at Scrapfriends - I bet you won't be able to resist trying out this sketh yourself!!!
