If you haven't checkoed out Helen tilbury's new blog 'Scrap Around the World' you really should. The challenges are so much fun and there are some awesome prizes up for grabs. I was thrilled to be a prizewinner last month. Here is my page for the new October challenge and the mood board that it is based on.
I took my colours from the board and also tucked a heart shaped doily unser my photo. The board suggested an important occasion to me and my eldest son's 23rd birthday was certainly that.
I used a technique shared on the amazing Heather McMahon's blog to make the shabby, torn newsprint background. As soon as I saw Heather's tutorial I couldn't wait to get out the gesso and newspapers and have a try. My page didn't work quite as well as Heather's but i will certainly be using the this idea again. Thanks Heather - your work is awesome.
I added some stamping and inking over my prepared background then layered up my elements under my photo. My son Adam took the photo at Chris's 23rd birthday dinner on Monday this week and we both really liked it. You can see the family resemblance can't you?
The metal ampersand was part of a Studio Calico project life kit. I loved it as soon as I saw it but was not sure how to ue it. This was the perfect opportunity!
I layered some of my favourite elements as a photo mat - Crate paper transparencies, polaroid style fabric frame, washi tape and lots of tags and labels. I cut the 'today' part of the title on my Cameo and hand journaled the story.
