Swing!

Here is my take on the March challenge at 'Once Upon a Sketch'.
I took these snapshots of my son swinging in the garden. He was room 2's 'Shining Star' of the day and as such he was allowed to bring 'Ted' the class bear home for a sleep over. He was so excited and insisted on doing everything with Ted (even taking and bath!). I took the photo to put in 'Ted's' diary (each child has to write a few sentences about what Ted did on his sleep-over at their house and add a picture - it makes for a fantastic class scrapbook at the end of the year!)
When I saw the inspiration quote at OUAS I thought of these photo's immediately. It was such an ordinary afternoon activity, but it brought so much joy to Benji and to myself.

I created the bright background using my newest aquisition - Inktense water-color pencils from Derwent. If you have not tried these out you really have to. They are amazing. The colours that they make when water is added to the pencil lines are so vibrant and bright - far and away the best water colour pencils that I hae ever used! You can colour, drip, splatter and stencil with them. They cover dark backgrounds (like black cardstock) beautifully and when dry you can add other mediums over the top without the colours running together. For my background I simply coloured over the entire 12x12 cardstock with two colours of green and a bright yellow pencil. I used a large brush to blend the colours together using lots of water. To stop the cardstock from buckling too much I placed it under a stack of large books whilst it dried. When it was completely dry I used a stencil and ink to add some details to the background before adding random ink splatters in black and red ink.

I created my title using a technique that I read about in the current issue of 'Scrap 365' - one of my favourite scrapbooking magazines of all time! I attached letter stickers to my page and siimply drew around them with a red gel pen. I removed the stickers and outlined the letters again usig a black pen - simple and looks really cool! (thanks to Emy Buxton for the original article).
Thanks for visiting my blog today.
