Defining Moments

The challenge at 'Once Upon a Sketch' this month is 'An event that changed my life' got me thinking. Ofcourse there are those obvious life-changing events like marriage, the birth of each precious baby, but for this one I decided to document my love of running which is a fairly recent obsession for me.
In 2011 I found that I was getting breathless carrying my infant son up to bed. I had made many attempts to stick to an exercise program but none worked for me. I would join a gym and go two or three times, or start to go for regular walks but the motivation would disappear after a couple of days. In August 2011 I bought a pair of new running shoes and resolved to start walking each morning. After a few days I was getting bored so I set myself the challenge of running my walking route. I was thrilled to find that I could actually run 2 kms without stopping!
Thats when my love of running began. Each day I challenged myself to run further and faster. My first 5kms was a huge event for me - my time was around 35 mins! Two and a half years later I am still running 6 days a week. I run between 7 and 10 kms most days and I can run my old 5km route in 27 mins. I am about to start training for my first marathon in November. More importantly I am so much fitter, I have heaps of energy to chase after my kiddies and I feel great!
I loved the sketch and started off sticking quite closely to it but then I kind of lost the plot and got a bit carried away with my inks and stensils. I piled up lots of odd tags, die-cuts and paper pieces to make a mat for my photos. I wanted to add a lot of journaling so I typed my words and cut them up into strips. (takes less room that my usual handwritted journaling.

Have a great weekend - here in NZ we have a long weekend as today we remember Anzac Day.

WOW Sarah I am blown away. I think that is amazing. I am the same with exercise I just get so bored so quick and I just want to get back to my scrap room. I take my hat off to you completing these marathons. Good luck with your full one. Amazing.
You have created an awesome layout for this life changer and what I love about it is that nothing prepares you for what that is. SOOOOO clever. Love the pics of Benji too. You rocked this one. Thanks so much for playing along with us at OUAS this month.
