Precious Little Boy

Here is my take on challenge 117 for the CSI design team.:

I based my page on this awesome mood board which is the April challenge at Scrap Around the World.. I just love the challenges at SATW. They are always so inspirational and take me a little outside of my comfort zone - always a good thing don't you think?

I was inspired by the colours on this board - which matched the CSI challenge colours very well. I also loved the cracked, distressed element and the butterflies. I can spend ages getting my backgrounds 'just right' but for this page I took the advice on the mood board and 'just let it go'. I used inks, texture paste, gelatos, stamps, torn paper strips and gesso. I layered all of these elements together failly randomly, using my masks and stencils for a cohesive look.

I really love this photo of my little man cuddling up to his favourite soft toy 'Paddy'. I changed it to 'sepia' so that it would fit in to my colour scheme perfectly! I matted my photo on a variety of elements. Firstly the torn patterned paper strips which I adhered to the page and coated with a thin layer of gesso. I added a few pieces of washi tape between the strips for extra colour and texture.  I layered my chipboard flourish (initially a large single piece from Kaisercraft but I cut it into several separate portions to better frame my photo), transparency, Purple Pumpkin crocheted doilies, and die-cuts on top of  large paper doily. Finally I added my photo to the top of this pile of 'goodies'.

My title is a mix of 2Crafty chipboard (the word 'precious') , thickers (boy) and Kaisercraft mini-alphas. I wanted to include the story behind this cute photo but also to fulfil the jourrnaling criteria for the CSI challenge. I tried out the random word generator and it came up with 'face' which was easy to incorporate into my story.
You have to go along to both these awesome challenge sites and check out the challenges. You won't be disappointed and there are fantastic prizes and guest DT positions up for grabs! Have a great weekend :)
