First Day - Off the Rails Scrapbooking February Challenge

Check out this interesting colour combo/mood board from Off the Rails Scrapbooking this month. These colours are not ones that I would usually use together so I was keen to have a go at the challenge.
I took the photo a couple of days ago on Sophie and Benji's first day of the new school year. They looked so cute walking together to their new classrooms. As they walked I overheard them talking. he said 'My tummy feels funny!'. She replied 'Mine does too - it's supposed to because it is your first day in a new class. You'll feel better by morning tea'. How adorable is that?
This candid shot is really special to me so I wanted it to really 'pop' from the page. The easiest way to do that in my opinion, is to go against the current trends and print it out BIG. In this case the photo is 6x8".
I picked out a variety of papers in the colours that I needed and began to layer them onto a sheet of Kraft cardstock. I built up the layers and added embellishments until I was happy with the effect.

I added ink splatters on top of my papers before finally positioning the photo on the topmost layer and adding ephemera to overlap the edges and help it to blend into the page.
I added my handwritten journaling next to the photo and recorded the full story on a journaling card adhered to the back od the page.

Thanks for visiting my blog today and checking out my take on this cool challenge. Have a great week!! !
