Best friends and a new Challenge at Frosted Designs!

It was a stinking hot day at Disney and the kids were begging for ice! I bought one slushy (the food is really expensive inside the parks) and the two little ones settled down to enjoy it together. I snapped a few photos of them as they looked so cute together. when I saw that the theme at Once Upon a Sketch this month was 'Friends' I thought of this photo. Although they are brother and sister these two really are the best of friends. They love to spend time together and are happy to share almost everything without too much prompting :)
I just got my hands on the new October Afternoon 'Cakewalk' collection and I thought that the colours and patterns would go well with this theme. I sprayed my background with white and yellow spray inks over two different masks. I layered my papers - hiding any reference to birthdays (the line has a birthday party theme). I also changed the wording on my journaling card to match my theme (using mini-alphas to cover up the irrelevant words). I fussy cut another banner from my patterned paper and attached it over the banner paper to give it a dimensional effect. Some stickers and tags from the American Craft (Amy tangerine) 'Sketchbook' line completed my page - these two collections seem to complement each other quite well. I doodled around my edges and added my journaling and bakers twine.

Here is the new sketch over at Frosted Designs along with my take on it for their DT. I had a lot of fun with this one. I took the photos in San francisco. Our kids love to collect 'flattened pennies' wherever they go as souvenirs. This time Benji insisted on doing his own and the expression of pure concentration on his face as he turned the crank was priceless. I sprayed my background using a dinner plate to mask out the circular area that I wanted to keep white. Then I used a darker blue ink and sprayed again using a polka dot template to get the two tone effect. I sewed around the white circle using my machine then set to work layering paper, cards, tags and stickers underneath my photos. I chose a photo strip to tell my story and enlarged the one cute photo of Benji holding the final product.
Now I have a confession to make - Ididn't actually have an enlarge-worthy photo from this series of photos, so horror of horrors, I dressed Benji up in the same shirt that he had been wearing on the day, gave him the very same squished coin to hold, and snapped a photo of him in our kitchen at home lol !!! It worked because I zoomed in really close to him and cut out all the background and because the original photos were only taked  a few weeks ago and Benji hasn't changed at all since then. So there you go - my confession of the day - I think it was worth it to tell this cute story :)))

Both layouts are so cute. I love all the stitching and all the fun details. The story of the slushie is just so sweet. My kids were like that when they were small, and now that they are in their 20's..they still get along!
